JADE VINE
August 1999

Silver hair, pensive earth-brown eyes
and jade vine
encapsulated into
an æon of motionless time
protected from
fire and water,
wind and rain
nurtured by the sun
and combined forever
into a blaze
of a million golden memories.

Thank you, Sunshine.  It's about the mother of an ex-boyfriend (the one I wrote the hate poem to - My Parting Gift).  Her daughter died in a fire in a building while she was in London and her mother planted a jade vine in her own garden in South Africa in her memory and honour.  When it died, she replaced it with another.
