in the shadows

How small people can be,
at times,
I have watched them shrink before my eyes
as if the weight of their own lies
drains life from them;
how frightened some must be,
in life,
to refuse to own the darkness
that resonates as endless mirrored voids
within them.
It is not the fear of death
that triggers desperation;
it is the fear of life
I think.

It's the limbo that gets to me.

Loved the title too, reminded me of a time when I read for a friend who gone blind. I don't think he ever followed a storyline, but he loved the editorials I could not resist adding, so yes, smile, this can be done.

In fact, I believe you just did.

It's even worse. It is their not realizing -- lacking the equipment or sometimes the inclination, to realize -- that what they're doing, how they are, isn't being alive in the first place.

Falling into the darkness.....and the darkness is actually inside...really, really far inside.  It takes desperation to see it.

Your poem is thought-filled!
