Cold winds blow...
But, the embers glow ;
And the woodstove crackles a tune.
'Tis a chilly night and an eerie light...
Beams down from the Hunger Moon.
February, you're four months old...
My, how big you've grown !
The Lord has blessed me in many ways...
But you're the greatest blessing I've known.

I love you, son !   With all my heart !
I'll do the best I can...
To give you all you're ever need,
and help you be a man.
But, your father is not like other men...
He is odd and out of place.
To a few, he's a treasure.  To others, a throwback.
To most...He seems a disgrace.
I do not live by the ways of the world,
Or the times in which we live ;
I live according to my beliefs...
And these, to you I'll give...

My only rule is...  Live your Life ;
And that means...   Stay Alive !
So... Finding the "Giver of Life" should be
The first goal for which you strive.
Today, they say you should "Live for self" ;
But son, this is a lie.
Many cling to things that soften them...
They grow weak and they die.
God above is the power souce ;
From Him, our energy flows...
And the farther we stray from our source of strength
The weaker we shall grow.
Don't live for "self" and gather things
That soften the body and weaken the mind.
In Death's hands lie the things of Man ;
In God, its LIFE you'll find.
I do not seek the things of man ;
So I don't measure up to size.
I have no need for their shallow world ;
So, I'm barbaric in their eyes.
All parents want more for their children,
Than what they had for self ;
But, all I pray for you, my son...
Is happiness and health.
Wordly things wont bring happiness,
And they wear the body down.
Gather God's treasures unto thyself,
And happiness will abound.

I do not say to stay away
From all that mankind has to give...
But, do not set them up, as things
You need in which to live.
Your goals should be unlimited ;
But don't set your sights too high ;
For all a man is needy of
Is enough to get him by.
This being done, count your blessings son
Beyond this point lies Greed.
The more one has, the less one values
The things of which he needs.
Food, shelter and raiment...
Any more than this is weight.
Its beyond this point, Ego sets its traps,
And Man provides the bait.
I tell you son... It's better to be
Hungry, cold and athirst
Than to be fat and soft and unthankful,
Gluttonous, greedy and cursed.
To be a pile of bones 'neath a lean-to
is a blessing to compare
with being... weary, bored and spineless...
Filled with Man's vanity fare.

Son, there are those that turn up their nose ;
Casting baked potato and steak to the floor.
They are filled to the gills and bored with the swill ;
And could care less if they ever ate more.
I'd praise God and smile if they could starve for awhile ;
Feel their belly being scraped by their spine.
No food they'd detest and they would feel blessed...
If a cold can of beans they should find.

No, I don't run with the crowd
And get puffed up and proud
As I flash my new do-dads about ;
But, I've got my son and my wife
And an overly blessed life
And the Lord sees we dont do without.
The cold wind does blow, but the fires aglow
And you're lying warm in your bed.
There's no indoor plumbing and there's lanterns for light,
But God above sees that we'll fed.
There will be times to come...
I'll be called cruel by some,
For, all of your cries, I wont heed.
But, I'll give you my love
And by the good Lord above...
I'll see you have all that you need.

It is sad that in times like ours, we have so many blessing, yet we do not remember we are blessed. If more people had this mindsent, the world would be a much better place.

I hope someday you get the chance to live like you were dying....
