Listening to every heart

Full Breath

“The human ego is a fragile thing,
but I wouldn't say it unless I saw
the potential in you to achieve it...”

RCR…

It was then I took the fullest breath,
to stay some tear from welling, as
heartstrings were plucked quite tight,
and this love, it’s swelling…

how many times was this little boy
the bane of my existence,
how many times did I taunt his life,
and oh, we were persistent

for we were to be each other’s rock
on which we would someday stand,
though time and tide has ticked the clock
I knew his secret was to have a band,

though no one else might know this share,
he knew mine…to write on air…

Oh, I might pound him on the arm,
then he would parry forth in glee,
we would wrestle, but no harm
would come to my brother, or me…

but let no one else come in
to this secret ring of taunt
the memories are falling forth so fast…
it’s strange how they still sing in haunt…

and then I took the fullest breath
for who knows when we shall see
the face of each other again,
hey, Robert…hey, Karilea…

somehow, someway,
his music lives on,
even if it only reigns
in this heart of me.

~*~

This write began on 3-9-03
Yet, I don’t feel it is finished,
even now.

I hope that it will never be finished...because such a poem as this should grow and mellow through all the years that you remember him. It's as beautiful as the man, beautiful as the heart of the woman who wrote it, and will always write it.

You have written its beat, and it is a heart-beat.  Through you it lives in us by reading of your words.

It was then, upon the moment of your birth, as your lungs gasped for
their first breath...and I held mine....wondering who you were.

Not knowing then, and sometimes now how much you would
become a part of me for so many glorious though sometimes
perilous years.

And now, even after have savored the taste of your ways,
of your tenacity and strength...I still hold my breath at times,
wishing that I might once again hold you close to my chest,
tickle those toes that grew to a man’s size...look into those
captivating eyes which changed colors over years of seeing
all that became precious to you, precious to me, precious
to us all, all of us who absorbed your wisdom, felt the love
of your heart...and still do...

written for you both...hoping I came close to what
you might have thought...hugging you...

The bond between brother and sister is so very special.
After all, they were there all along. This tugs so hard
at the heart strings.  And like you said, your poem
may never be finished.....as it should be.

My heart and many prayers go out to you, Karilea.

Karilea, this is absolutely precious.  So tender it brings tears to my eyes, too.  I bet it is not finished...just like you are feeling.  Somehow, I feel Robert will find a way to continue to communicate with you.   ...jo

That is the most sensitive write I have seen in regard to the dreams and relationships between brother and sister.  I hope that you keep writing. Much enjoyed and such a hansomeman

I have to tell you it never ends, and I am into my second book of ongoing memories.  Keep it going, and one day, when you least expect it, someone will read it all and know what love is.

Sometimes it never feels finished...

A brother is the one thing I wanted and never received. It was what I needed most.

He may be gone from physical being...but you had him for awhile...

This was beautiful Karilea.

Bond of siblinghood
Annealed by living love
Kept always in heart

A beautiful story.  Hugs Ken

Through rubble and trouble and dark of night
The yawn of a dawn will hasten the light
