Mist like the past clings hard and fast
to S.A.’s Van Reenen’s Pass
and there’s no real way to make it known
Death mingles with the chill
dressed candy stripes and joker’s hat
but, oh, those tinkling bells
sound his presence loud and clear
into the ears of fear.

Up, up, and further up; a climb like life itself
tests the strength of my belief
that still I need to breathe
before the downward twists and turns
keep the air imprisoned
within the hope for life.

And the view to the left a hidden mystery
like a spirit housed in the folds of flesh
and it waits, this I know, for someone just like me
to stop, look, feel, and believe
true beauty lies unseen.

Down, down, down, to part level ground
where she, the sea, still as before
flows unbidden to the shore.

There’s a truth in every wave
bordered white like blue eyes
looking past what seems to be
and those who mutter “nay”
fools from out of paradise
lost along the way.

The sea, the sea, simply love and me,
joined immortally with the stubborn shore.
Let those who dare try to part
what God has caused to be
and I am not responsible
for what befalls when free!

Hi, Martie - Just home for a few days.  Off again on Wednesday.  It seems the sea and the shore need my company.
Hugs to you, dear lady - February hugs!

Thanks so much, Nancy.  I'll need another holiday to catch up on my poetry reading but, of course, one never can really catch up because the board moves at lightening speed.

Bluesy Gal - It ain't me who has been gone for so long so I guess it's your words that have been missed more.  So good to see you here!  Thanks for your kind comment.

Hi Jo - I've returned rather sun-stroked - hey, I said "sun" with a "u".     Sigh!  Hope all is well with you.  I went to an interesting talk while on holiday - going to send you the link to his web page.
