Sitting alone in the gray just before the dawn;
Staring at my ol' coffee cup;
There aint no easy way of pulling my boots on...
But, I see another sun coming up.
My body aches out in the Summer sun;
And now Winter time is setting in.
But, the good Lord says my time aint done,
So I've gotta hitch up again...
Lord, its a hard row!
But, somehow, I know...
I'll keep plowin' on.

Well, my backtrail is littered up
With everything I used to be...
And sometimes I can't squint hard enough
To see whats left of me.
A man shouldnt have to hurt like this...
I'm too young to feel the way that I do.
But, considering how there aint much I've missed...
I'm alright... For all that I've been through.
Lord, its a hard row !
But, somehow, I know...
I'll keep plowin' on.

Like an old empty bottle, by the edge of the road...
Used up and cast aside...
One day they'll find me, drained and cold
They'll call someone and say that I died.
I'm broken in places that labored hard
And I hurt in places, I used to play;
But, I dont want to lay down in some cold graveyard,
So I've gotta make it through today.
Lord, it's a hard row !
But, somehow, I know...
I'll keep plowin' on.

I aint got much that I can show,
For anything that I've ever done.
Don't worry 'bout me Honey.  I'm good to go.
A little pain never hurt anyone.
I've gotta keep moving.  Gonna make it...somehow.
You know everything will be alright.
Just help me get dressed, and I'll hitch up the plow...
Come on girl!  We're burning daylight !
Lord, it's a hard row !
But, somehow, I know...
I'll keep plowin' on.

The Bible says dont ever look back...
Once you've set your hands to the plow.
But Oh Lord !   My blade is wearing down !
'Though I'm all used up and the fields been rough...
I've gotta pick up my step...somehow
'Cuz Lord...I took a good look around...
Its been a long hard row...
And I never broke ground.

But, I'm plowin' on...
