bare feet
pounding
on red clay
C’mon!
C’mon now!
Ya’ll hurry!”
Blind Walter’s playing down to the feed store

they slide in
easy like
making sure the screen don’t bang
quiet

Blind Walter
sits on a wooden chair
rared back on two legs
and plays the harmonica
like God has taken over his mouth

and God says
love makes you wander
like a man gone wrong in the head
love makes your skin draw up like it’s fixin’
to burn you to death
love makes you laugh in your sleep
and makes you crow like
a wrong headed rooster
love hurts like hell
love tears you apart
love can make you wish
you’d never drawn breath

grown men stand in a circle
prime young folks
lean on feed bags and each other
children sit on the splintered floor
and
nobody moves you understand
nobody makes a noise

when Blind Walter plays the blues
there is no foot patting
no hand clapping
no tell it Walter
no breathing
no noise
but once in a while
an old man shakes his head slowly
and a tear slides

WOW....

I heard every held breath
and a pin drop
after it was over

Lady, thanks for another treasured library present! I sure enjoy your vivid mini-portraits, the way you let your characters display themselves within a scene.

Your earthy slices of life always stir up fond memories.   They warmly wrap around me, giving me a sense of comfort and familiarity, like my old denim jacket that I refuse to part with. I thank you so much for every slice and every drop of ink you have shared.

Ya just gotta' know
That that old man,
With the tear in his eye
Has been in love,
And has had the blues before.

Love this, the humanity in it
The scene, the setting...
Blind Walter knows what he is talking about.

Thank You

The Lady...Great story. I love the blues...Paul

Play those blues
let your soul bleed
A drink
A lost love
A harmonica
Is all a man needs
