Daddy was a soldier
Mama was a soldier’s wife
I was a princess with stick legs
dandelion fuzz hair

some nights
Daddy took Mama dancing
wedding cake dolls
Daddy in his uniform
Mama in her yellow dress

some nights
Daddy danced at home
Frank Sinatra sang
while Mama smoked cigarettes in an ivory holder
drank from a small glass
her legs crossed at the ankles
she laughed with her red lips
when Daddy danced with his princess

Daddy held me to his khaki chest
and we danced
Day by Day
we sang
Daddy
Frank Sinatra
and me

Oh my, this brought tears to my eyes...
there's a place I used to frequent on the Jersey Shore, and at the very start of the boardwalk, there was a beautiful, mundane glass home, sort of like a cape code, with a lot of windows, two stories and a large front porch looking over the ocean...the man who owned that home, played Frank Sinatra songs all day long with outside speakers so the tourists could hear.

Sorry, but that is what this song of yours did for me....

Now, getting back to the story, you must have had a great wealth of childhood...

Hugs to you and thank you for this...

Thank you Andrew and Stranger.

LeeJ, thank you for your reply. I’m glad it brought back memories for you. I had a great childhood and it was full of music. This memory was brought back by my son and his three little girls dancing and singing with Frank. It is so amazing to see your life in those of your children. Hugs.

Thank you Enchantress. Hugs to you.

Thanks for your response Ed!
