Listening to every heart

Drying Clay

Even God knew
that the emotions of a man
could not be held in eternity;

so He presented Konrad some clay.

After leaving Travis, to travel
his own way along the western suite,
the clay of the southern way
clung to the artist in Konrad;

he picked at the southern red rust of dust
off his boots,
as his tears added the requisite moisture

while his finger creased into the soil of the
damp, inscribing names of the past,
yet not leaving the rent in his heart
for anyone to see.

He blew on it, his breath like a
torch of warm love, this love for a sister,
and a lover, all in one,
and yet both, gone.

I d a m n b n e a he mixed as one, of two
dropping duplicative letters,
wanting to split it back to what was,
as his mourning slipped silence,
and swallowed the sky
in sound
as he saw in the light of day what was really there…

then, it was gone, ...

but the love of them, lingered.

Konrad swallowed hard, and left the
drying clay to mark
the path that would be his.

Great poem.
Sort of seems like a hallmark topic in ways.

Awesome poem. One of creation and memory.

Leaving travis to travel sticks out in my mind. It reminds me of a cartoon portion of an old episode of sesame street, featuring Traveling Travis, in which Traveling Travis goes traveling on everything from a motorcycle, to a pogo stick.

This is a timely epilogue, and such a  meaningful poem filled with memories.
I read a sense of peace and contentment in your words.
You express yourself in so many wonderful ways,
and we are all the better for it.

God Bless you Karilea~
