A knight in armor shining bright
May dazzle a maiden fair;
On a white steed he rides to the field
Amidst a blinding glare.

See him strut upon his steed,
Watch him gallop past;
But for all the gleam of a polished tin
He throws a doubtful cast.

If a shiny trinket, maiden,
Is your wish to keep -
Then succumb to the call of a fleeting glint,
But never, ever weep.

No knight that ever a battle fought
Or rode a dusty trail,
Will raise a shield of a spotless sheen
Or wear unblemished mail.

The chinks in the armor are the scars
That mold a truer heart;
The shield it bears deep dents of life,
And of his soul is part.

But in a wisdom’s chair sits the maiden fair,
She searches beyond the dream;
Her heart and soul are judges fine
In the sentence of the gleam.

Words are but words, and shine is but shine;
But in deeds the truth will rise;
And the worth of a man will gauge her love,
And steep within her eyes.

The sheen is in the eye of the beholder,
It reflects the purest glow;
It bares the naked truth beneath
And of the heart below.

Really enjoyed this but can I suggest:

No knight that ever a battle fought
Or rode a dusty trail,

dusty should be rusty

I really liked this

Dave,

Thank you for your comment. I considered a number of adjectives, rocky, etc. and settled on 'dusty', as the dust settles on, and cuts down the sheen of the armor / shield.
