It was there,  that hidden place,  just behind a lid....as a tear
fell silently to the waiting cold earth...and she knew...feeling
his eyes staring through her soul....cleaving deep within the
spirit of her,  carving into the depth of her essence....Until
she breathlessly  ran.....stumbled into that imaginary place
that seemed so very real....her sanctuary...

Turn key isolation, his heart stopped, emotions frozen to the
cold steel of logic. The thought of her mouth melted him
in rivers of warm dreams
Swelling in his chest the gentle sleep of vulnerable.
Cherry wood doors, latched and bolted, shook loose offering
their fortress no more. It was there, that hidden place, just behind a lid
That echoed of her fragrance and her fears...

She felt his fleeting touch, a stifled cry hungering to escape.  But
she knew that he would win, he always did.  Only on those nights
when the curtain lightly touched her cheek, when the cool air of
evening brushed a lid.....only then did she feel safe....until the
pale of dawn huddled,   just behind a lid...a quivering lid....as she
held her breath, once more.

Grasped within his hands, palms leaving wet the sheets, as she sang to him...
Raking the back of doubt with her sighs. Trembling the walls of his carefully kept will
in cling of raindrop stream. Inevitable, that she traveled there...walking carefully
The garden path that led to secret places, tender traces found on sacred ground.
And all was let to see, each touch upon a memory...

A place....near the heart...far from nowhere...close to everywhere....where love is
again born beneath a cloudless sky....as a crescent moon shines over a place,
a sanctuary....just behind a lid...

Duets...sort-of get to me these days....and this one so very good.....

If nobody minds, I'm going to just slip off and be alone for a while......

Barry and Kathleen.

"A place....near the heart...far from nowhere...close to everywhere....where love is
...just behind a lid..."

I loved how the above theme echoed within the poem and held it together.  Wonderfully done you two!!

Oh my, Barry and Kathleen..
THIS is exquisite.
The best duet I have seen in a long long while.

I found there lives within me..

signed, and sung, by the two of you...
