Mary Jane Graffiti

There's some wild screaming down the hall
and Mary Jane graffiti on the wall
the kids didn't mean any harm
big red broken hearts tattooed on their arms
yes, hearts were once beating at 33 & 1/3 'round the night
yes, smiles were lost and found in the lack of light

Under the darkest bridges you were there
tangled up like the ribbons in your hair
sayin' the boys don't mean anything
sweet blue smoke they were chain-smoking
yeah, the rhythm and blues those Chicago nights sounded like
no, I can't find the lost cost of living 'neath the turnpike

Babydoll with the lowdown crawl
stop bleeding yourself dry
sugarsweet teen with a touch of velveteen
but ragged like the love of a guy
who doesn't care for her and always lies
as long as she believes him
that world will never die
it's a gritty little sin

So there they go, my dream lovers # 1-24
gettin' the feeling I felt this way before
but something new in her careless heart
a little beauty inside her, a reckless work of art
still, please remind my mind to proceed with care
still, I can't wait to break through her emerald stare

Alleycat with the know-how, where's it at
the love you misplaced?
See I'm the tomcat kid that wants the winning bid
on your rare smiles tonight
shining like soft moonlight
as long as you can believe me
this world will never die
it's a promise so pretty

Now here's some wild time after all
painting Mary Jane graffiti on the wall
the girls don't seem to mind
big green eyes take 'em down every time
maybe through green eyes she tries not to cry again
maybe I'm too afraid to stand up to her big boyfriends

Babydoll there's graffitti on the wall
to let your know the kids are all right
sugarsweet teen, there's another scene
where love could make sense tonight
so don't care for the other guys in sight
as long as we're together here
that scene will bathe us in light
it's a smile and a cheer

'Cause tonight, tonight baby
there's wild screaming down the hallways
and Mary Jane graffiti on the walls of grey
a little color the kids wanna see
big red mending hearts flying high and free
yes, hearts swirling like 45 records on the inside
yes, smiles curling big and wide
love and trembling 'neath the turnpike
and don't be surprised, Melissa, if everything turns out all right
it's our gritty little secret
and a promise so perfect
y'know?

I don't know why this is on a back page with no replies....

I like it   It's rather abstract...rather entertaining...

enjoyed..

Oh this was something else, a little rough around the edges,
just enough to keep me going.  Kind of like shifting into overdrive,
and burning rubber!!!  Even though the subject matter was
down to the nitty gritty, and off the beaten track.
THAT was the thrill of it all, and entertainment at it's best...
"y'know"

Excellent work, soul drifter!!!  I applaud you as a writer
and admire your colorful imagination.

These couple verses stood out for me,
especially the promise so pretty.
Gotta love it!!

The title hooked me right away here, and I love the rhythms and this reads like a tough sassy walk down a dangerous street.

Loved it.

Thank you, thank you to all who pulled this one back up out of the dregs. It's one of my favorite ones that I've done.

I appreciate the kind comments.
