Listening to every heart

In the Chill

There, in the old memories,
cool gray mists surrounded childhood,
stealing in at dusk,
clouding the skies of midnight starlight,
the ocean but
a crow’s flight away…

Here, in the new steps,
cool gray fingers surround memories,
stealing in at twilight,
chilling my cheeks to an old rose,
as I nourish hungry streams
with this out pouring of soul.

~*~

While the raven eyes me, knowingly,
the red-tailed hawk takes flight.

Sissie....As you know, birds have special meaning for me.  It would seem they are moving into your life too, with their eager intelligence.

Sunshine, like a shroud pulled around old thoughts to seal them off, this poem pulls at new beginnings after the dusks and twilights in vision and dreams.  The Raven is a cynic, but the Red-tailed Hawk must take a higher point of view.

This is written, not just as memory, but like afterthoughts,  "chilling my cheeks to an old rose".  Exquisite!

A Redtail came gliding through my backyard the other day. Without flapping a wing it sailed by me like a jet and caught something, a chipmonk I think. I watched in awe as this beautiful bird began to feed less than a 100 ft from me. Kinda like I am when I drink from a spring such as this.

I'm still floating in the fog, dreaming your poem.  I enjoyed all the responses too.
