Riverside Epiphany
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

My life was rife with growing pains,
With many a twist and turn.
~ A future without hope for me,
As my dreams would crash and burn.

I have swum salt seas of sorrow,
I’ve run many a country mile.
I’ve clawed my way from the brink of hell,
~Yet naught had seemed worth while.

I’ve had my share of tragedies,
“Loss” was my middle name.
Regardless of the efforts made,
I played a losing game.

One morning by the riverside,
As I cried tears of despair,
~A rainbow spanned a bright blue sky,
And flowers filled the air.

In a moment of epiphany,
I knew I'd never be the same.
God hadn’t made me miserable,
~My negativity was to blame!

With this change in attitude,
Things began to go my way.
I stepped Lightly into sunshine,
And cast off feet of clay.

I embrace each day with gladness,
For I know that all is well.
Since I turned my eyes to heaven,
~ Gone are my days of hell.

“We are born of star dust,
And to the stars we shall one day return.”

Linda,
Your words express the feelings many have known along with myself included. It gives a light of hope that all will be better only if we ourselves want it too.

*hugsU*  So well expressed, dear EarthlyAngel One.  What you've said is so true.  We make our own heavens and hells sometimes....but the grace of the universe is waiting there to remind us that there is light, just when we need it most!  Love you, Linda!  ...the lily lady

I have also had my ups and downs, so many at times that it seems as though I were on an elevator with someone else hitting the buttons and me with no way to get off.  We have to make a decision to change, don't we?
Thanks for the poem.    Danny

Yes! That is exactly how I used to feel! ~ but ever since I "let go and let God" I feel empowered and have grabbed hold of the helm of my life's ship with God as my navigator!

Happy sailing!

Even one busy playing the blame game has to appreciate the beauty of this epiphany... and the loveliness of the soul behind the pen. *S*

Now... where's that river? *S*

Tears run this sunny afternoon as I have been in that 'hell' and it is not a pretty place.
Beware though, my friend, the 'evil one' has many disguises and can reappear when we least expect it.

All is well here and hope all is well with you. A wonderful bit of writing and I thank you.

hugs and loves, Marti

It's good to hear that all is well with you. These last few months have been humdingers for me! Incredible highs ~ and incredible lows. I just keep looking up to the magnificent firmament and then all my trials, pains, and sorrows seem so small in comparison.

Wishing you a happy birthday in advance! I didn't forget!
