She walks the city streets
falling into the doorway’s shade
then quickly moving out again
her eyes on the ground
dark and somber

She is looking for something to steal
and I fear she will take it from me
this happiness that lights my way most days
she has lost hers
and searches the windows trying to find it
without a reflection

Last night I saw her at a restaurant
moving slowly almost looking at me
and then away
knowing my interest was probing her shadow
where she thought she hid

I wanted to reach out to her
and gave her a smile like a corner table
with the chair pulled out for her
but no...came rushing towards me
as suddenly as the gust of cold wind
from the door that she closed

May I be the first to say Wow, it's good to see you back....all the way back. This is exquisite.

OH WOW!!!  Martie...this is fantastic!
I also saw her lurking just around the corner.
..waiting to take my smiles away.
Heart hugs to you and your muse who has returned!!

In the midst of winter,
I found there lives within me..
An invincible summer.

Sometimes a gust of cold wind is a gift not appreciated but the shiver passes as do most things.  Happiness, however, is always ours to have and to hold no matter what - once the shiver has passed, of course.
Enjoyed the read, Martie.

~ Hang on to your happiness! Don't let anyone or anything take from you what you so richly deserve.

Words fail me when it comes to me expressing just how much I appreciate your talent!

Be happy! Stay happy!

Excellent writing!

Be careful where your eyes wander.  Your eyes see between more lines than most.

Had to come back
for very special,
loving,
needs.

Thank you again
for this wisp
of wonder.

Sadness and despair...she sure hangs around in the shadows some days, doesn't she?
I felt her cold breath, am glad you knowhow to say no.
