at dusk we walked out on the pueblo
past children rolling in snow
dogs sleeping in doorways
tiny houses
white washed church
to the very edge of the pueblo
where the sky fell
in soft flakes
there
we were overcome
with peace
stillness
joy

it wasn’t about the snow
that came before Easter sunrise
the chocolate dipped strawberries we
fed each other at lunch
it wasn’t about sliver rings
tiny bear totems
wrapped in horsehair packets
it wasn’t about the pueblo at all

it was about
complicated
middle-aged hearts
promising to make old bones

Alot of people find that once you've been in a relationship in middle age and your passing over to the old age there no point in disappearing on each other you just kinda remain together

Promises...how easy are they made?..and just as easily broken?...but the setting for the promises was very well written..and i enjoyed the sentiments behind the poem..thank you..

RedStoneEB, as Gibran said, “Let there be spaces in your togetherness.” That needs to apply to all relationships whether young or old. Disappearing into each other NEVER works.

Ahhh... Goldenrose. You’re a realist and yes, promises are so easily broken aren’t they? Caught me. LOL

Thank you Susan, Martie, Lee and Page.

Beautiful poem!

I think Redstone meant leaving each other, not disappearing into each other.

You know Diana, you're right about Redstone. I misread that one. Thank you.

Thank you for the kind words Jo.
