Once I roamed the corporate jungle discovering who I’d be,
I swam in waters with piranhas; each took some bites of me.
Then I made it to dry land and thought I saw the light of day –
A corporate ladder looming high, I thought that I might play.

Thought that I could make my way and someday buy a Jaguar.
But what I found while still on ground was wild cats at my ankles.
And so I thought that my way out of “survival of the fittest”
Was climbing high so I could fly and acquire my independence.

But there’s an anaconda wrapped 'round the ladder to the top
Poised and waiting quietly, prepared to squeeze and stop a heart.
The corporate air is hard to breath, the tightened grip displaces
Dreams of lofting country home and Norwegian cruise vacations.
~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The boa wrapped around your neck, not ostrich feather tippet,
Rather one that smelled the sweat you let while climbing up and up
Silently coiled around the frame, it waits for your approach.
Then greed, the man-made anaconda, starts choking off your soul.

Love it Jo... especially the last stanza.
All too true.

Whew! That was a close one! Glad you got out of that corporate quagmire before it choked the life breath out of you!

Jo, you did a great job of showing the perils of climbing that proverbial ladder!

Love you!

(big angel hugs) The corporate environment can indeed feel so cold, sterile and distant, dearest friend, it really is amazing how bosses can be on the floor just above yours, yet they are ever so distant from understanding you and your needs ever too often! (sad sigh) This really reminded me of Enron reading this, dearest friend, God Bless You for your sentiments here, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Jo, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

well done
well written

yanno, I was thinking about writing a poem of the same topic on the way to work this morning...

it simply comes down to this, if your willing to compromise your beliefs, morals, loss of respect for yourself, play politics, then you'll have that car, & home of your dreams.  The best person for the job is no longer looked at...it's friends of friends who are no more qualified for the job then Barney, and even Barney would make those people look good.  Its so sad and disgusting what these so called qualified corporates are doing to business today.

This should be a discussion in the forums section...

Well done!!!!
