Moved from a shack to a barn

It used to be only a short walk to Babylon
Two flights down and around the corner

In the afternoon
The veterans would sit, as veterans do
In the dust of wars in the corner booth
Beneath a ceiling fan turning too slow
To rearrange the smoke of their lives

Evening brought the boisterous young pagans
To play eight ball for beers with more vigor than skill
On the flat green plain where Gilgamesh
Once slew Anu, the great Bull of Heaven

The priestesses, gaunt beauties all
Would start to drift in at eleven, open to worship
Open to offerings and yours for the evening
If you had coke in your pocket, or they liked
The taste of the snakeoil you sold

Then, there was Ishtar, madness that swayed
Who wore her gloves full length and fingerless
And liked the night wrapped tightly around her

But, Babylon has since drifted away, or I have
The journey there can no longer be measured
Merely in steps, the depth of dust
Or the smooth length of fingerless gloves

The distance is now hidden in the rings of trees
The sons of trees, and in the ancestral memories
Of insects, who practiced their husbandry
In the Gardens that hung there

Wranx, I imagine a little bit is hidden in your DNA, too!  Did I enjoy this?  You know I did!     ...jo

You ended this beautifully, as you always do.   You brought me right there, I see it in my head . . .
might have been someplace similar without realizing it, but I doubt it.

The places you have known, exist in tales told by fireside.

I can't wait.

Joe would smile, you know?
(He probably is actually, just because)

I miss your stories, Eddie
and you have put yet another slice of your life in my brain.

I still want to know about Ishtar.
She has stories buried inside those gloves.

Wonderful wonderful write..
I am at a loss for words,
which rarely happens.
Well done!

I found there lives within me..

You always remind me of future's past...

I wish I could curl up on your couch and listen while you told me your stories.

sighing

You are wry and soothing, even when you joust with an acerbically pointed pen...

*beaming at you*

yer witch is weary m'yeti and your words and worlds are tonic

I always enjoy a look through your mind's eye. Past or future it sees alot.

Great poem, man.
