it's in the pouring rain,
the howling winds

I hear the voice of sorrow
crying please
no more
tomorrow
please let there be
no more tomorrow
seemingly endless suffering
nothing buffering the sound
nothing drowning the cacophony

the scream

I looked at that image again

felt the torment
in a volume of anguish
spilling over lips that curled,
begging some imaginary power

for mercy
mercy, please
oh, bent knees begging
and these knees are getting tired

then
when the winds died down
and a rainbow appeared

I gave thanks

but still have no idea
to whom I spoke that word

but it matters not,

if within the winds
the word Love screams in echo
'round this godforsaken globe

then I shall willingly review my point of view,
adjust my blackest night vision goggles
to accept whatever beams of light
may be
beyond this day's reality

thanks Martie
actually, Munch's original artwork The Scream (originally entitled Despair) just about shows the feeling

This tells, and speaks,
loudly
of your heart.

Hugging you tight!

I started to write a "sermon" of sorts here and changed my mind.  Kacy, I think the battle for humanity is in full swing and it boils down to this:  creativity vs. destruction.  You're on the right side!  Keep creating.  Sending some hugs your way tonight.  (I hear those winds, too...I'm going to try and keep my eye on that soaring eagle you wrote about once.)...jo

This stanza definitely hits me in the "solar plexus," as you pit it in your constructive critiques message.  Very well done, and thought provoking at that.

It does, Midnitesun, it does. Love does scream in echo, round this globe - and dear Midnitesun, God hasn't forsaken it - you in taking on all the pain you see in others, are just missing seeing the love for the moment.  Look, starting with how many people love you, and how many you love, including those you write about in your poetry - the abused, the suffering.  Feel how strong your love is.  Know that many others also feel it as strongly and then you will see that Love does scream in echo round this globe that God loves dearly.

Beautiful, sensitive poem, Midnitesun.  You are a good, wonderful person.
