you taught them chords and lovely tunes
then put your trombone hands
upon a heart's covering

it's ok
to some who know you
because you played music
you taught them to love melodies
rhythms and harmonies

but it's not ok
it's not ok
it's not ok

for you stole the notes
of safety and trust
and now in prison you must
pay your dues

but it's not enough
no, no
it's not enough

the young girl who sits at home
unable to play the music of her soul
because of your twisted mind

she cries out a mournful tune

it is not ok

and making pretty symphony music
all those years
for all those ears
should not allow you
to listen to Gabriel's horn
*

sadly, this is based upon a true story

Kacy,
"and making pretty symphony music
all those years
for all those ears
should not allow you
to listen to Gabriel's horn"

So true. Very well done.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry, this whole episode just makes me ill. I live three blocks from Linfield College. It is really difficult to accept that so many so-called 'refined' people stood up to defend this man.

I hope you know how very proud I am to call you "sistah"--

We need you, Kace.

We need someone who has your courage and tenacity and yes, unrelenting conscientiousness to point out the things we might never consider and scream at the top of her lungs "IT IS NOT OKAY".

So dear to my heart, you are.

Thanks for being you

and keep turning those lights on, lady.

Oh Kacy,
This story is lived so many times. It's incredibly personal to me and from 20 years in my past in another state the defender is in my town. Fortunately we have not crossed paths as I am no longer the "peace maker" I once was.

If tears could build a stairway and memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven and bring you home again.

Larry, somehow, we must stand up and stop this kind of thing. To HONOR this man in a public courtroom is almost beyond belief.
sigh
I am disgusted with the way this trial went, except am happy to say, the vile man is going to prison.
K? hugs back atcha. We cannot afford to stay silent, can we? loveya

WHAT? ME SILENT! YOU'RE KIDDING, RIGHT? NOT ME!

And Karen,
You be true, as usual. And you make me proud.

this just made me break down. I am so so glad there are people like you who will write something like this, perhaps for people like me. It was a heart wrenching write, but a beautiful one. And if I could say it to those girls- the music will come back one day, more beautiful than before. Sorry if I've rambled on.

Midnitesun, thank you for being you and bringing this to our attention with your beautiful poem.  And you are so right IT'S NOT OK!  I don't understand people (well, most of them).  Animals are so much easier to communicate with.

I am so proud to call you sistah Kacy..
I've said it before and will say it again,
you are an inspiration to all and I admire your personal fortitude in these matters.
This type of thing really jerks my chain yanno??  As OWLS said, animals are easier to talk to.  Humans who act like animals??
There is no talking to them. They have lower IQ'S than some animals, and I am SURE that some animals have higher IQ'S than these humans do......

Loveya sistahgal.....

anxious to know how many had the courage to write letters to the editor of your area newspaper? Or to the school, the Judge,or to any one else who could make things happen?
You are there, and you care, thank you for that. martyjo

I submitted a protest at the online forums here. We have a very small paper, not even a Sunday edition, and this was in Thurs or Friday's news, so don't know yet what will come of this. I'm having car problems today, have to get it towed, so am not able to follow up except for that online forum.
thanks to each of you for your warm and tender replies

I'm so sorry your community is in the middle of something so destructive to its moral integrity.  Thank you for sharing this, Kacy, and for keeping our eyes open to the world, wherever you find yourself.

You are truly a most Passionate Poet.

If you didn't care so much and educate the rest of us I would have to start taking the short bus to school.

You bleed and I love that you bleed with the rest of us.

When I read this, the hairs on my arms raised.

Blech . .

No words, Kacy.

KC ... holding true to thy self,
       your heart straining, never waning

       though saddened by circumstance,
the hearing's results must be music to the ears

proud to read you ... always

Thanks for your time and replies.
This issue is in an ongoing newspaper forum thread locally.
I am thankful there are many who have read it, though very few have replied to the newspaper thread.
