The rails were cold
I could feel them through the soles of my shoes,
Yet found comfort in the coolness, proof of life,
Of living, today, unlike others, I wanted to be

The imagined sound of his voice
Had put me in a mood for remembering
That had made my step a little lighter and my face a bit more flushed

It wasn’t always like that, the memories
Sometimes the exact same memory could invoke a wish for an end to the thinking
Yet today they made me smile, wistfully longing for a time that seemed
like perfection was an obtainable, tangible reality

As so often happens in life, that perfection is short lived
To the point where you often wonder if you imagined it
But I knew he wasn’t imagined and what we had was my reward
For what was still to come

We always seem to pay for youth
The invincibility of beauty, perceived wisdom and love
Oh to be that ignorant again, I would surely give the second half
Of this miserable life

nodding here

"Like perfection was an obtainable, tangible reality

As so often happens in life, that perfection is short lived "

Know why that is?

Well I'll tell ya.

It's 'cause change is the only constant, and therefore the only state of perfection we can have acheive would have to factor in mutability.

And I have no idea where that came from.

I swear I just type the stuff.

and yes, Alana...

if I ever get past my slump, maybe agneline and lana can meet up.

We could have a cat fight! (Guys just love cat fights... )

wink

love this

love you

I love you much, Karen.

This alone could start a serious philosophical discussion:

Oh to be that ignorant again, I would surely give the second half
Of this miserable life

I am loving all of these, makes me feel like I am peeking into two diaries, Susan.

So much insight and wisdom in this, Susan.  I really had a chore picking out my favorite lines; there were so many good ones.     ...jo

Susan this truly made me smile through a ton of my own nostalgic bs you know?  Trust me when I tell you as you aren't old enough yet, you will truly be that ignorant again, I know I am!     It's wonderful all over again.

Hiya Myrtle.  Sorry I'm late in getting here but what with all the naps and such, it's been hard to find the time, yanno?

So, you weren't sure about this one.  I trust you've reconsidered?

"Character" poetry requires a connection that not all writers can make.  You not only made it, you made it (her) very real, as witnessed by those who've read this and said they relate to it (in so many words).

Ya done good.  Told ya so.
How come you doubt me?
Still, after all these thousands of times, when I've been right and you've been deluded...

Yes, I would love to go back to the age of innocence, my mind could be free of knowing what i know, taking more risks, and being able to love without scars~

Great Poem Susan, these are the feelings your poem made me feel as I read it~

And Dunc?  I think "all those times" you have been right is a slight overstatement don't ya think?

Awww. It seems as if only the good things in life are short lived. I think that is why we charish them most.

Ed~   You simply can't catch what doesn't exist..

yet I think we each have in our mind that which makes us happy (or would/will) and that is those moments that make us beleive it does exist...and most times, that is enough.

thank you all for reading.
