Burning Birthday Candles

For my last birthday,
I received something odd.
It was a toothbrush covered in petrol.
And a burning white wall,

So I sat on the wall
That was consumed in the flames.
And I brushed my teeth.
That were burning as well.

Then I became
A man with no words to say,
Only fire to spit out
With no meaning in my spray.
Oh yeah,
It’s hot,
But birthday candles,
Never seemed to agree
With gasoline.

Momma says, "Life... is like a box full of chocolates, you never know when you're gonna get one with a nut in it".

I found this intriguing and would love to know the meaning behind it...

Yeah, I admit, it’s pretty weird but who isn’t these days. While the point of it may not be lucid, it is present, hard to believe. I’m an insomniac so most of my stuff is written at ungodly hours. It’s about how some people seem to get angrier on their birthday. I mean I’m only 17 so I’m at the age where I’m not counting down the days until my birthday but I’m happy when it comes. Really I’m amazed how certain people dread their birthday and they won't be happy no matter what. I guess they think of it as getting closer to the end. My sister is like that; it's sad really, she's only 25 and she feels like that. The poem is weird like that, it’s mocking and sympathizing with people like that and maybe demonizing their bad feelings about turning older.
