This final will and testament
Commends my soul to God
My body to consuming worms
To feed this fertile sod

My plow, I offer to my son
My barn, to sheltered beast
A cornfield not yet harvested
For flapping crow to feast

My bed of roses I bequeath
For all eyes to embrace
My fence posts for a neighbor
To delineate his space

I leave my watch to one who marks
His life by measured time
This fertile land, I cannot give
For it was never mine

A coat of wool, my brother gets
His son, my wooden cart
And you, endowed the richest gift,
Are heiress to my heart

Oh yes, my love, please take my heart
Upon my final breath
What you did not receive in life
You will possess in death

It is a heart more full than yours
More richly blessed with love
Perhaps you’ll share it with someone
When I’m in heaven above

I will not envy him this prize
But I will bless the two
For I desire your happiness
As much as I love you

OhLizzy~
There are times when your spirit circles mine and brings thoughts to the page that I would swear were my own~

I'm homesteading this piece of beauty~

Now that's a Will to emulate.
As always, our Lady Santos,
full of love and ever-giving!

Dear lady,  I have always wished to write
an epitaph for myself....  I think you have
done rather well...Now,  just live another
50 or so years and all will be just right.

Now...did you ever hear the song, "The Second Time Around?"  The one that inherits your heart will have had some time to learn those lyrics well     Love is lovlier the second time around Liz, and lucky you, will get to experience that feeling twice.

Loved this poem a bunch!

Absolutely beautiful, Liz. This is a display of your imagination and poetic prowess in full array.....loud applause here.

Knowing your writing as well as my own, may I point out you left out the "who" in line 13,  Meter Maid?
