LongJohn was on the prairie, when he came upon, Some boys 'ridin' herd to Denver, the trail boss hired him on. They seemed like 'regular fellas'-they laughed and joked and swore, Then he saw a mare without a rider, and asked the boss "What for?" The boss replied, "It's lonely here, The women are down in town, And "Buttercup" comes in handy, When we need to "play around" Now LongJohn knew about cattle, and had been to all the schools, But never dreamed he'd be out there, with them horse-lovin fools. As time went by he too was lonely, and nature took it's course, Before too long old Longjohn, fell in love that sweet horse. He lead her down the canyon, just him and Buttercup, Stood on a whiskey barrel, and got himself "hitched" up. The trail boss heard the noises, found LongJohn 'playin' away, He laughed his fool head off, and then had this to say; "Well a man's gotta do what he has to, And son I ain't puttin' you down, But when me and the fellas start "feelin' that way, We RIDE her into town." |
