you smiled at the buckets
with their 4 gallon balls
and the boys in the bushes
that pretended they were indians

you said I would find something
in the forest of woman trees
that would satisfy my craving
for the obvious flavors I preferred

and that you would watch me climb
from your place on the swing
and to be careful near the sand
lest I leave footprints easy

for you to follow accidentally
when you weren't alone with him
and you would have to explain
our schooling and the coat rooms

where we were wickedly playful

I think all this is missing
is a jump rope
and monkey swings...

but then,
you weren't looking over there.

Brought back some memories, DS...
and that is always a good thing.

step softly on the forest floor
midst trembling leaf and limb
turqoise echoes ocean roar
sings siren's ancient whim

...and
melodies noted where she lingers
sifting sand between her fingers
