bummed and down in the ‘mouth’
…no lines, no part, no stage-
presence to be de-lineated
…unavoidably unavailable

the lead, it burns the soul
…to the quick
and another’s lips the four lines read
…like a heavy stroke

as best you stay in waiting wings
…as hope you do employ
let others keep the status quo
…and you, yourself enjoy

…being you…

this was to my daughter who didn't get the part in her college play...just wanted her to know she is OK in my book...part or no part

I am sure that your daughter appreciates your support greatly. She is most likely able to overcome those "bumps in the road" by the same love and encouragement she gets from you. Keep up the awesome fathering! Great poem, too.
