The poet tells the story that
The crowd refuses to hear.
The future is coming quickly and
You may have something to fear.

With each one who doesn’t read great works
We take the chance of falling behind.
Our stature is diminishing fast,
And our power grows harder to find.

No one take us seriously,
Not even our own generation.
How will we succeed again
To make ourselves a stronger nation?

We have lost what made us great,
And no one seems to care.
We will keep slipping down into oblivion
And hope that someone else will be there.

I can only hope that the demise you speak of only exists within the context of your poem. It is a sad truth that we encounter and you so very well expressed.

Good Stuff!

Actually, I am not sure how I feel about the topic. I was in a lecture and that topic was mentioned. This was how sad it made me feel to think about it. I just penned the words as they came to me. Thanks for the positive response!

loved the ending...

"We will keep slipping down into oblivion
And hope that someone else will be there"

Not where I expected it to go, but what a clever way to get there...

Excellent mighty mouth!

"No one take us seriously,

Good question.
