Cape Velvet
11 January 2006

savouring mulled secrets
under painted promises of undulating
night’s grace and nuanced
dignity softened down
old gold whispers of
water-colour memories made wispy
new, sinking, sinking sun now,
each sip a precursor of exquisite
rest in  soft, soft silk robe.

Thanks Midnitesun.  This is actually about an apéritif that I drink as a sundowner.  (I was 58 before I ever dared to have a drink on my own.  I thought I would turn into an instant alcoholic, but at the age of 58 I took the plunge and found that I didn't!  I have one tiny liqueur glass a day when I remember, but the taste of it is so delicious - something like ice-cream).

This poem is also my first attempt at an accrostic.  I thought, for the fun of it I would make it a double one - so it is the first letter of the first word of each line - as well as the first letter of the last word of each line.

Oh, and thanks, Midnitesun, for the link to add to my botany collection.  I don't have the time or the money to browse online, so links save me a lot of time (and money)!

Incredible work Owl!

"For the fun of it" you did a dynamite job at an accrostic.

Thanks so much, Lady!

littlewing, so do I now (read it as a sunset)!  I think it makes a very good one!  Seeing that the accrostic is SUNDOWNER, it isn't far off!
