volatile

a bonfire takes patience
when I bring you this wood
all dry and ready and you want
just one small fricative match
to ignite your tender tinder

there’s no vanity in my waiting
while you pretend to primp the stack
and small flamings hesitate
biding their phlogistic time
until your burning begins

in a wet smokiness kindling
until the glowings won’t damp down
because the logs have begun
to settle in the heat, and the fire
has tendered its slow ultimatum

Some folks can't be imitated....they're just too unique. But that shouldn't keep us from trying!

Ed, I'm almost afraid to guess.  It could be any of those mentioned above, but I think it is either Ford, or Icebox, in that order.  Beautiful writing!   ...jo

I had to look up phlogistic, and I shoulda known that one, Ed--because I AM that one!

But this is a wonder of work, and I can only hazard a guess, and since I have no clue whatsoever, I will say...

Ron Carnell!

(When I shoot for the moon in a guess, I really shoot for the moon, eh?)

But might I add that whomever you styled this after, it certainly does suit you.

Alas that I have done my work so poorly....some people I'd truly like to write in tune with, but....not my intended victim!

I especially hope someone comes up with it, because it appears that I won't be able to be here for a while....and going out with a bit of success would be heartening.

It is a good write.  I have been building fires with frozen wet wood all weekend.  Each one takes on a life of its own.

Ed...it doesn't matter that no one guessed...the fun is in the guessing, even if the guess is wrong.  You gonna tell, or leave us stranded?  Or, should I guess again?

Ed, are you leaving us for a while?
Was this a John inspired write? or LeeJ?
(from the content, not necessarily the style)
LOL, I burn my stuff up all the time, so I enjoyed that neat word, phlogistic.

RatL, I know you said no one has guessed correctly yet, but I still think think sounds like Ford.  I'm dying to know.  There are so many good poets here...sometimes it is just too hard to know all their styles.   Don't be discouraged!  It could be you're writing yourself....it is that good!   ...jo

I'm thinking the vocabulary is the key... both to whom it is and is NOT imitating... or maybe it's the smoulder? *G* You know I hate guessing games... so... am I on the right track? LOL

Even if I'm not... this is superb work... any poet would be honored to be mimiced with such style. *S*

Ok
we have this much:

it is not Raph, Gem, Kaoru, Wranx, John, Cpat, Karen, Martie, Maree, Ford, icebox, Ron C, Reb, Logan, iliana, Dixie, or Lee.

I would say this calls for a prize then.

*grin*

These are the parts where the poet breathes, no matter who it us, Ed, this is outstanding.  It read to me like many fine writers here.

fricative match
to ignite your tender tinder

phlogistic time
until your burning begins

in a wet smokiness kindling
until the glowings won’t damp down

slow ultimatum

Is this Mr. Dark?

I haven't entirely decided. PiP is a hard place for me to be sometimes, and lately I've been thinking it would be better for me if I didn't come here anymore, at least for a while.

Of course, I understand the need to leave, but please don't make it permanent. The site has lost too many of its best authors. And more than that, you're a key member, few contribute as much as you do. Whether posting, replying or supporting others new and old, the loss would be heavily felt.

Raph, you just made my choice for me. How can I possibly walk away from this place?

So, friends of mine, bear with me...I may not be here a lot, but I will find a way to be here at least a little....and what I write, I'll post.

Yes shame on us all, you did a fine job, had to pick out the delicacies of the write to see.

And I understand not being here all the time, but don't you dare go.

Like Raph said, way too many good writers have already gone.

Ed,
Where to begin? In order of importance,
I'm glad you've decided to stay. I did a quick refresh on Darrk ( who has been here quite some time also ) and, I believe you've
echoed his style as closely as possible. I don't think I'm up to the challenge myself,
I certainly wouldn't want to offend anyone with a botched job, as I've probably offended enough people around here already by not replying or commenting nearly enough.
Well, it's a new year, who knows. Thanks for being Ed.

You did DS, and yourself, a flavor, here...
don't be long gone, Sir....

or we will have to start imitating
you.

And that will be just as hard for us,
as this was, for you.

Excellent work...

Style worthwhile.
