(in staccato)

I sing this song for you Mama
and all the lies you told
when we both knew better

in September we made faces behind
Aunt Maggie’s back because she wouldn’t
keep her house clean
in October she lay under the dirt
kudzu growing along her spine
covering the sore red earth

they were real Mama
the things you said I made up
the faces  the voices
the things in the childnight

when the men came to take
Grandmother to the showers she
was braiding her gray hair
they turned their faces and
were quiet     waiting

the poet writes freedom for everyone
but herself Mama
and we all come from the showers
still and white

Such brilliant writting?

Kate, we grew up in an age that fear of the unknown ruled the day.  My mother "lied" to me, too.  Now we know better.  I thought it so interesting that you put this in "stacacco" -- the brevity of the time we have here to live and learn, perhaps?   ...jo

Unbelievable, you have a talent that many would sell their soul for.

Very good.

I like the effective
deceptively conversational tone
which is something I'm not able to do
however much I admire it.

I love it - and love the mystery, but am eager to have the mysteries clarified.

Thank you Dominique, John, Owl and Poe. Your words are so kind. Jo, you, of course, have named the mystery. Thank you.
