Moved from a shack to a barn

Limbo is closing up shop
Going out of business after so many years

Not, so much, a victim of downsizing
As it is of corporate restructuring

Its function has been deemed redundant
If not unnecessary, altogether

The angels in charge
Have been offered early retirement

And their assistants
Reassigned to desk jobs in Purgatory

The card room is dark and
The great hall is now nearly empty

The clamor and hubbub
Replaced by echoing footfalls

And the sound
Of one lonely broom, sweeping

The last of the residents are drifting away
And we’ll have to forgive them

For not at all understanding
That they are in Limbo, no longer

We, here in New Orleans, have yet to receive the memo.

But then, history forgotten repeats itself I guess:

"The Battle of New Orleans, also known as the Battle of Chalmette Plantation, took place on January 8, 1815, during the War of 1812, when the United States forces defeated the British. The Treaty of Ghent, which ended the war, had been signed over two weeks earlier, but the news had not yet reached the battle-front."

Until then, I guess we'll just dance.

limbo little lower now

But you are right in one regard--the rest of the place might look like hell, but I have decided my room is gonna be FABULOUS!

nod

I think we ultimately decide when to clean out the desk.

Very clever, as usual.  The image of the sweeping broom is equally beautiful as it is effective (not that every word of every poem you write isn't!).  It will stay with me a long time.

Your poems are of the ilk that keep playing in my mind's eye and re-experienced on a gut level.

Your poetry is hypnotizing and yet it can stimulate one's mind.

I think for serenity I should repost my version of Chalmette Field...

and as for you, Wranx, Limbo was the last 48 hours, when I wasn't sure if my 12 year old puppy was going to come home....

now that her heartbeat has returned to these walls, I don't know limbo any longer, either.

Thank you for this , this day.
