Apologies in advance -- my muse has gotten the best of me tonight and she just wouldn't shut up until I put this out.  This is like I heard it, no lie.  I take no responsibility for the political views expressed herein by my muse!  She overthrew me, held me to the ground and forced me to write this!  Personally, I think she's a little paranoid by the wiretapping controversy...hehehe.

The man ain’t got a hammer
But he’s got an atom bomb.
He ain’t got no nails for building,
But he surely can drop some
On villages with families
Where crosses might be hung.
Oh my goodness, your Graciousness,
I should bite my tongue!

The man ain’t got no license
But he sure steers the wheel.
He ain’t got no permit for
The lives that he can steal.
He ain’t got no capital
‘Cept money and the hill.
Oh my goodness, Graciousness,
Opps, my lips I'd better seal!

There’s a hammer pounding
From way back you know when,
A Dylan tune still playing
On the “nickelodeon,”
The cycles of our history
Spinning round and round again.
And some of us remember
Hoover’s quiet friends.
Oh my goodness, Graciousness,
Means justify the end?

Linda, I'm glad you were NOT related to J. Edgar! hehehe  I wouldn't want to offend a relative.

"And we speak of things that matter, of words that must be said"  The Dangling Conversaton - Simon and Garfunkel

Great words that indeed must be said!
I have a theory about our muses and how they treat us.  I wrote about it some time back complaing about mine.  My tale ended with this line.
”Be Still” my muse retorts to me, “Without me you’ll do worse!”

Always great to read you, Jo, well said!!  Ken

OwiSA - thanks for your comments!  Glad you enjoyed.  Here's a link aboug J. Edgar and I think it will help you understand the underlying meaning in the poem a bit better by knowing who he is. http://web.utk.edu/~rkirk1/Hoover.html

Or try this one if the other link doesn't work - http://www.zpub.com/notes/znote-jeh.html

WOW! I am just floored by this. This is a very powerful piece. Full of hints of sarcasm. I love it. Nothing like a good poem that shakes the reader and says, "Hey...is this the world you want to live in?" Bravo!

This is wonderful. Tell your muse that they did and excellent job however you must take all of the credit since you did all the hard work of typing it. Great job

Thanks Jo, I am already paranoid enough.

*laughing*

Read his biography when I was about 17 or so and I think a whole lot of that molded my views on life from that point.

Jo - I must be blind!  Missed this one but so glad I found it.  Simply love the way you've weaved this with humour that in no way obscures what you're actually saying and I know of what and whom you're speaking.

I looked earlier and thought it must have been deemed "classified" when I couldn't find it.

I absolutely love this !   I read it three days ago and would have responded sooner, but for the past two days I have been playing the guitar and singing old protest songs. My muse perhaps channeled your muse, because a few new songs were created.  Thank you for the gift.

there is that in some of us that just will not respond to us saying , Be Still.  When you get the urge, by all means, let it out.
Well Done.          Dan

Lovely iliana, I think you are brilliant!  Your muse is exceedingly sharp despite your misgivings about her boldness.  This is fantastic and very observant.

G'day Iliana.  How brutal to be thrown to the ground and forced my a muse to pen verbals against a fellow countryman.
Cop that Edgar old son.

Enjoyed the write mate.
