Artist: Ansel Adams

Walk In the Wildwoods
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

I walk in the wildwoods as shadows grow long,
~A howling coyote joins night birds in song.
I fear not the creatures that prowl and roam,
For I’m of the Earth and the woods are my home.

As nighttime encroaches and drinks up the light,
I retire within and become one with the night.
I’m cocooned in the darkness in sweet reverie,
And soak in the stillness whilst I breathe and just be.

“The time has come for man to lay down
his arms, and pick up each other.”
~ Linda L. Dowd

Linda, when I was a teenager I used to have to get up at 4am to go out to feed the cows and other animals on the farm.  There were occasionally wild dogs and other animals reportedly on the roam so when I first began to do this I was a little afraid.  However, after the first time or two, I began to love the stillness of the dark and lost myself to the peace.  I love this poem and I love the picture you chose.  It truly captures your words.   ...lily jo

Jo, I very much enjoyed reading about your nights on the farm! Altho' we didn't live on a farm, there were farms and ranches owned by several of my relatives. I have fond memories of my visits to them.

I'm pleased that my poem brought those memories back and that you shared them!

Hugs with love,
Linda

Linda, Ansel Adams is one of my favorite photographers for capturing nature in  black and white. And you dear lady are one of my favorite poetesses (did I spell that right?) for capturing nature and the earth. Might I join you in this evening retire?

Hey - move over, Linda.  That's where I want to be!     Such a lovely write - more like a dance in the wildwoods.

I need this... right NOW! *S*

You bring back so many memories... as I stumble around now, half-blind without my glasses... it's hard to believe I could once navigate in near-blackness... guided by sounds as much as sight. *S*

Remind me to tell you about my silence seeking and the horses, though... LOL

Beautiful work, my friend... I thoroughly enjoyed! *S*
