Take me back to Uncle John’s shanty
let me sit on his dock
sun warm on my back
sea soaked wood
worn
rough under my legs
gulls wheeling
calling
taking off and landing

put him there beside me
shucking knife in one rough paper bag hand
juicy Quahog in the other
let him slide the salty sweet fish into my mouth
smile his same quiet smile

let me spend an afternoon
with the sights and smells I remember
feel the warm gurgle of laughter in my throat
pleased with my world
and Uncle John

no one is left to remember
me
at Uncle John’s shanty
but time remembers us
old man and small girl
sitting on the dock

Ohhhh!  I love this!  It paints such pictures of a mellowed time and a special bond between young and old, experience, craft, and student.    Makes me a little misty for bygone family members, too.

gave me a marvelous feeling of contentment...
richly orchastrated, could see the dock, the moss covered trees, bending with sun streaks...

Oh, this brings back
such ouch...

but only if I moved in
the jerk of the fish
caught....

Well done!
