In Search of the Sublime
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

+*+*+*+*+*+
Onward I trudge, over rock-strewn trails,
That wind up the mountain of life.
I trip and I fall ~ and sometimes I crawl,
Through my pains, and sorrows, and strife.

With grit in my teeth ~ clenched tight in grief,
From the sadness, and loss, and travails,
I tramp onward up ~ with a half-empty cup,
With no winds to billow my sails.

With spirit so weary, and eyes all teary,
I pray that there’s Light at the end.
So onward I climb ~ in search of sublime,
And step by small step, I ascend.

As I near mountain top, I waiver then stop,
For a brilliant white light crowns the crest.
I stand there in awe, with a slack, open jaw,
~As I’m bathed in God’s love and am blessed.

I fall to my knees, as a gentle warm breeze,
Melts all of the ice in my being.
Away slips the strife ~ as I brim with new life,
~ With my heart I now will be seeing.

Onward I trudged, over rock-strewn trails,
That wound up the mountain of life.
I’d trip and I’d fall ~ and sometimes I’d crawl,
~ Now I march to the trill of God’s fifes!
+*+*+*+*+*+

methinks you have found the sublime...especially in these words:

"I fall to my knees, as a gentle warm breeze,
Melts all of the ice in my being.
Away slips the strife ~ as I brim with new life,
~ With my heart I now will be seeing."

very lovely write...

Linda, I have such bloodied knees making that long and arduous climb. Sometimes it feels like I'm never going to see that light at the top of the mountain. But when I reach it, it's worth all the bumps and bruises, aches and heart pains.

A beautiful write, as always,
Love you angelgirl, Marti

steavenr ~

This was a pleasant surprise! This poem was slipping into oblivion and you just brought it back into the light of day! Thank you!

This poem is rather special to me so it was especially nice to see it back up where it may be of some encouragement to others.

Linda

You certainly do march to the tune of His fifes, Earth Angel, and are such an inspiration to us who are left footed!  Coordination has never been a strong point here-- could never march on the right foot during the right beat, if you get my drift.

hugs and loves to you, Linda

Marti, my dear kindred spirit, I can see you and I finally reaching the crest together. We raise our arms high over our heads and touch glorious blue skies and together we exclaim, "I'm queen of the world"!

Barry, and God bless you!

Hardships have been the norm in my life ~ but so have glorious blessings! Life is taking the bitter with the sweet. I may learn more from the less savory aspects of my life ~ but the good times are one heckuvva lot more fun!

Sending you a big hug,
Linda

miscellanea ~

Cathy, knowing that you are tucking this poem away, means a lot to me. It has special meaning for me and I am so pleased that it does for you as well.

Hugs with love,
Linda
