 (Just had to briefly break my long streak of love poetry to re-post this in deepest concern of the war in Iraq, with its cost already as staggering as it is, possibly set to top two trillion by 2010. In my experience, I've thought of politics as science-fiction in many ways, particularly with the idea war and military action can produce freedom and liberty in the world, and ultimately, peace, like the videogames that we often obsess playing, like Yar's Revenge, where the mission is to break through the enemy Qotile's shield and destroy it before it destroys you. You keep playing level by level, only realizing each level gets harder, where the Qotile's homing missile only chases you quicker, eventually the Qotile has a little device that repairs its shield, zone guardians stall you from firing rounds, etc. and realize you can never win the war, only a number of battles. That's just how I feel about war in general, in believing it will never end all hatred and conflict in the world, and only incites a new level of hatred or battle. In my heart, non-violence and peace have always gone hand in hand, and this new song touches up on the science fiction aspect of politics and the Orwellian idea of "War Is Peace" that seems to be going around ever too much today.) *  Yar's Rebuttal By: Noah Eaton 1/22/04 There you go, foreseeing the inevitable... Problems and catastrophes, are inevitable in your head, but solutions are not, space cadets dream of planetary engineering, while we ground the rock into silt... And in our allegiance, we voice out against the obstruction, but in your allegiance, you define it as ecogenesis, you disregard our minds, cause you find truth in that, though we brave human laws, there's no resisting natural ones, life is change, does that justify war as peace...  There you go, foreseeing the inevitable... As long as your heart keeps beating, as long as your body and soul, keep together, there's no use admitting, anyone with will needs to despair... And in our allegiance, we voice out against the obstruction, but in your allegiance, you define it as ecogenesis, you disregard our minds, cause you find truth in that, though we brave human laws, there's no resisting natural ones, life is change, does that justify war as peace...  There you go, there you go playing the same old game, what's the use, when you're never told that you've won, faster every level, educated guesses become quick thinking, auto-pilot disabled... And in our allegiance, we voice out against the obstruction, but you say, "You'll thank us later, soon you'll attain stability, make pillars from yesterday's fossils, cause you acquiesce, science fiction's full of mistakes, but they are useful to make, the molding is all that's at stake, but when you keep watching your back, you can't fight the continuum, we're back to square one, one moment's breath becomes moratorium, when your fingers tremble on the joystick, acknowledging, life is change, but war isn't peace... Oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh, oh oh oh... "If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other" Mother Teresa |
