The Iraq War could cost us TWO TRILLION >
http://www.military.com/NewsContent/0,13319,84950,00.html?ESRC=eb.nl

HOW HIGH THE COST?

That's nearly seventy-two hundred
For each child, woman and man,
Twenty-two grand per average family
To pay for this Military “Plan”.

Now, that's if we start withdrawal this year
And don't count the cost of wounded care
For head injuries alone for twenty years
Fourteen billion more, is our fair share.

Then the hidden costs for Reservists
Plucked from jobs, and the economy
The cost to recruit and re-up Troops
To try to make another country Free.

At least that is what we were told
To save the World from ol’ Saddam
When we should have, took one hundred days
But this one just goes on and on.

And the best minds about money
Blame the cost of oil on this War
Not just the high price of gasoline
It makes everything cost us more.

But the most expensive part of it?
Is the pain and tears for all those lost
Those kids without a Mom or Dad
Would say it’s too high of a cost.

Those Moms and Dads who lost a Child
Brothers And Sisters and each friend
Will say that it came much too late
No matter, when this War does end.

Though all of us will pay the price
Though most have hedged our bet
But far too many gave their all
And we can never pay that debt.

Police, Veterans Prepare for Protests at Soldier's Funeral
Army Times  |  January 10, 2006

Police and county officials urged veterans to avoid confrontations with anti gay protesters who plan to picket at the funeral Tuesday of an Indiana soldier killed in Iraq. Hundreds of area veterans have said they will try to shield Pvt. Jonathan R. Pfender's family from members of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan., the Evansville Courier & Press reported. Church founder the Rev. Fred Phelps contends that American soldiers are being killed in Iraq as vengeance from God for protecting a country that harbors gays. Church members have protested at scores of military funerals, and the church informed Evansville police Saturday it would protest at Pfender's services Tuesday at The Centre.

Well Abe, I sit here in Canada just shaking my head again without much to say to this.  I have sent it around to my American friends seeking their comments.  This is the second time in my lifetime I have just sat here shaking my head, the first was about Viet Nam.

I'm sitting here doing the same thing as Mysteria.  War is not the answer and it appears Iran is on the agenda next.

War costs are outrageous, financially, but far worse in the loss of human lives. One can't help but wonder what kind of wastes are taking place and if contractors are getting paid much more than the soldiers who put their lives on the line so the contractors can work there.

As for the group claiming God's wisdom, they ought to study His word a little harder. It  reminds me of those who accused Jesus of violating a commandment by healing a leper's hand on the Sabbath day.

Thanks for sharing this.

I'm reminded of the bumpere sticker that reads, "If you think that education is expensive, try ignorance".

Ignorance costs much more than education....as "Safety is much less than an accident"....as in, "Stopping an epidemic is so much better and cheaper than treating the masses".........So what's the answer?....

(big angel hugs) Oh Abe, it is very tragic indeed, and already outrageous as it is that we've went around the $300 million mark on this senseless war! (sad sigh) I've been light on socially conscious poetry as of late with having all these romantic and erotic desires in me reflected in love poetry, but it certainly doesn't mean I'm not continuing to think strongly about these serious issues, as this money belongs to our children; it's OUR universal health care coverage, food stamps, veterans care, living wage promotions and education money that's going to war profiteers whose hunger seldom seems to ever satiate! (sad sigh) I have consistently condemned this war from the beginning and will continue to do just that and continue to pray for a withdrawal as soon as possible, as further prolonging of violence and misunderstanding promoted by our government will only lead to more future tension and chaos, and I continue to sadly wonder how our nation's leaders have already forgotten the lessons we learned from Vietnam and such, God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Abe, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

"A BILLION LITTLE PIECES"

Even the wise and worldly Oprah (with all her millions and resources) can be had!  What chance do us mortal beings have?

When will we realize that as humans we prefer war and killing and conquest of our fellowman more than peace and goodwill. That's always been where the money and power is at for those who have learned to benefit and take advantage of it. Wonder what the World would be like if all the $ spent on war and killing had been used for the good of mankind?

What is a Billion?

A Billion is a difficult number to comprehend. The next time you hear a
Politician use the word "Billion," casually --- think about whether or not you want the politician spending your tax money.

One advertising agency did a good job of putting that figure into perspective in one of its releases.

A Billion Seconds ago -- it was 1973.

A Billion Minutes ago -- Jesus was alive.

A Billion Hours ago -- our ancestors were living in the Stone Age.

A Billion Days ago -- No-One walked on two feet on earth.

A Billion Dollars ago -- was only 8 hours and 20 minutes, at the rate our government spends it.

If you could travel back in time to the birth of Christ, the beginning of
the Gregorian calendar, and could set aside $1,350,000 ($1.35 million) every day of every week, every day of every month, and every day of every year right up to today - you still wouldn't have enough to pay off the over two trillion dollars the George W. Bush regime has increased the national debt since he took  office.
