rainwalkers have secrets

they know where the street drains are
and where they dump all the overflow,
which houses sit high and dry
and which ones will need a giant sponge
after a two inch rainfall

and I walked the streets for a week
no, not that way
but when my car was in for repairs
and the cabbies were nowhere to be found,
I hit the ground with boots and umbrella
and again,
as I did in Colorado,
California and Alaska,
I became

a rainwalker

and now I have some secrets of my own
about this small town in Oregon,
but will keep these lips zipped

mums are great flowers

A very curious poem.  I like it because it lead me to think about those who walk the streets - the poor homeless people of the world.  There is no need for the homelessness we see everywhere.  If the government people would give up just HALF of their incomes to a homelessness fund, there would be awrm blankets, protective walls, people who who help these lost souls find employement and a home.  But our governmetns are too greedy and once they get in office, they become greedy and want only for themselves.  Awesome poem.

Hello there! I see some of the same things you see, and for what it's worth, I've also been lucky enough to meet and work with some fantastic people who constantly reach out to those in need, offering shelter from life's storms.
It feels good, and I know it's the right thing to do...to reach out and help our fellow humans. Thanks for your reply!

I love this because it made me think of all the times I did walk before I drove and how much I missed walking and never again had that time to unwind with the city . . . always on the way back home.

walking can be refreshing
sometimes I do it for fun

just kidding
walking helps the heart
in more ways than one
but it's pouring and windy tonight
and I am glad
I have a car again today

I don't drive, so I know about this...

and after a lifetime of looking at the smaller things, longer and in more detail, I'd prolly be dangerous now if I did.

Sometimes I spot new growth in a neighbor's garden before they do.

Not a bad thing, that.

Besides, the angels whisper stories to me when I walk.

loved this--love you.

Having just come in from a "rain walk" I can appreciate your poem.  Most times I'm too busy keeping an eye on two adventurous dogs but sometimes one can feel what one doesn't see and that's great in the fields.  Street walking, I know, can be somewhat different. Enjoyed your walk!

Oh, I love this! It sets a stage, and I can almost smell the rain mixed with the car oil on the street.
Thank you

Ellablue, thank you for visiting this piece!
I often walk even when driving is more convenient, just for the feel of it...
knowing you understand.
