Women of young age are sweet,
But not more sweet than those that have mellowed.

Longer races build the heart, and mind-
Brains grows larger from the exercise.

Longer study of the world through eyes,
Shows that most important things don't move.

All know, that, yes, the surface fades with time,
That breasts may lose their perkiness, and thighs
May lose, their early smooth- but deep inside
A girlish spirits still remains-forever stays the same.
*
Women mid stride-acting their age
Are like the occurrence
Of vintage-year grapes..

So pay the wrinkles little mind,
Know this shows you're in your prime;

And that vintners love fruit
With long life experience,
Know touches of frost
Only makes the grape sweeter;

Women at forty
Are like the finest made wines,
And a same thing is this,

That both get better, as more time goes by.

Oh, now I will have
the tune of this
in my heart
for the rest of the day...

thank you for this, ice...

how about doing one
for us in our 50's?

Wait!  You can't do that...
you are forever young...

and wouldn't know a 50 year old...

Kari
Pay closer attention to the last few lines...
especially the last one...

"Women at forty
Are like the finest made wines,
And a same thing is this,

That both get better, as more time goes by."

See, I have already written about women at fifty and beyond...

"both get better, as more time goes by"

Thanks for reading...

LOL...

The wine could have gone sour
at age 49...

Still enjoying this...

"The wine could have gone sour
at age 49..."

Could is a key word here, remember poets look at words with a sharp eye, each one being of extreme value...

Apparently, at 49, the wine you speak of has not gone sour, but is transcending its age with a fine grip on worth, it can only get better..

When I speak to people of any vibrant age, I think of the words of a Dylan song...

And speak to them the words of it, with sincerity..I wish

"May your hands always be busy,
May your feet always be swift,
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful,
May your song always be sung,
May you stay forever young,
Forever young, forever young,
May you stay forever young."

Make note:

One of the things that do not move,
As noted in my poem...Is forever youngness..

(is that a word)   You know what I mean, I think?

Thanks for the back and forth...

Yes, youngness is a word, now that it is in use.  Why not?

Strange, that before Huan's thread appeared, with the aforementioned use of "40", I had yet to delineate my own decades since 30.  I remember 30 as being a "what am I doing?" time, thinking I had not, as yet, accomplished anything. Yet my older and much wiser adopted sister called me and regaled a whole litany of things I had accomplished.

Which humbled me.

But in the last few years, the line between 40 and 50 have been, at best, fuzzy.  I remember my mother between those times, and while I'm leaning toward "the features" she bore, [and this I attribute to not ever having picked up the habit of smoking] I don't feel that I have aged as she had, given my current days on earth.

But one thing I have noted, is that in my moving a bit slower, possibly with more determination than some supposed need, I am not as child-klutzy as I once was, and perhaps it's not seen by others, but at times I feel more graceful in my age. So it has come to be, then, that I want to enter the rest of my life with, if nothing else, some grace. I have certainly paid my dues in bruises to attain that small piece of gold.

As for the rest of whatever it is I have to offer people, I can only hope that I will drop whatever bad habits I have, take on better attributes, and leave something of worth behind not only for my own grandchildren, but their friends, as well.  Isn't that what we do, as we pass the age of 40? Take in the bigger picture?

Yes, thank you, sir, for the give and take of this thread. It has indeed started my Monday off very well.

I believe that I once read in one of your replies ~ or poems ~ that you love women! Well, this write is the proof of the pudding! ~ and now all we mature women love you! Flirty

A man who appreciates women, is a man worthy of appreciation!

I also enjoyed our Solar Orb's touching response to your words.

Not only am I intune, pleased and do love men who realize & focus on a woman's needs, but also, woman who are able to do the same, when that happens, seems like nothing else matters...but love...compassion, desire, not for anything material, but much much more, complementing another, which in turn, returns....

delightful read Ford, thanks so much for sharing your generous heart.
