Ostensibly
To worship some deity
A slender girl in miniature
Cast in bronze

It was because
I saw her once
Alone along an avenue
Truly too beautiful for this world

And thought perhaps
She should deserve
Praise despite her servitude
Though after now
When Rome is gone

So future men might look and feel
By this image I made of her
We weren’t all pagan animals
Who only honored cretin gods
