Swallowed by the Night

~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Naked I stand
on a slick, icy slope,
In midst of this
century’s storm.
Dense falling snow
is blinding my eyes,
And I’ve naught,
to keep my bones warm.

The night swallows up
my stillborn screams,
in this wild and desolate land.
While ravenous wolves
are gathering ‘round me,
As they thirst for the blood
Of a Man.

I tremble and shake
with my primal fears,
as their yowling
echoes thru’ vale.
I faint from the sound,
of gnashing long teeth,
~ Then wake
to my harrowing
wail!

“Oft times it is the deaf who truly see
and the blind who truly hear.”
~ Linda L. Dowd

Great write, Linda!

"The night swallows up?
my stillborn screams,"

My night must have a very large collection.  I wonder what it does with them.  Put them on a shelf, polish them up, and then return to sender so that the cycle repeats?

But I think your night is a gentle and loving one!

Oh, Linda, such a sobering dream, and how you capture the feel!  I tend to think that the "wolves are at the door" so to speak, and we must keep our spirits light.  Hope you can get some rest -- and that your dreams are more peaceful, dear friend.   lily jo

These are poetic heights, my dear friend Linda!

And you convey very powerfully the primal fears that haunt men.

I'm buying into MartieSis's line of thinking here ... yes, the wolf symbolizes The Protector~
