                   sun

             stop shining
                     let me hide
         there’s nothing to see
                  less to be

              pointless this try
          to send you away
      like a cop
               shucking lookers
  fatigued to action by
              the over and over face
       that won’t leave

             it is not my time
               to be warm
        even on one side
if you must mock with light
                         mock me cold
          down in the dark
                    where you don’t go
      or mock the grass
             at least it can grow

thus the winter's
shoal to cling,
to bring to thought
all wiser things,
that you would not have wondered,
oh, it is true,
if the sun could be,
that which you'd rule...

It makes me sad when people ache so much.  Your poem is exquisite, but I wish it was happier.

Oh, do I ever know this ... and there are those times that it knows me too, too well~

Sometimes I just think I owe it to myself to find the time to 'hide' ... for after awhile, I seek once more the sun of friendship's warm comfort~

*HUGLETING* you ...

I've seen days like this, too, Ed.  One in particular, and I'm not kidding, was many years ago on a drive home from college.  My heart was broken, but the sun was shinning; just the most glorious day; and I wondered to myself why it wasn't as dark and gloomy as me.  Within a half hour, the clouds folded in and surrounded me and I ended up in the middle of a horrendous hail storm.  That was the day of the Xenia tornado which pretty much wiped out the greater part of that city in Ohio, as well as causing tremendous damage to a broad range in SW Ohio.

And the moral of this story is:  BCWYWF.  Really, I do understand despite my weird sense of humor.   ....jo

I've read this many times today... and like it more with each reading (Mind you... it's the superb writing I'm liking... not the pain that prompted it... just thought I'd make that clear *G*)

I know that place where warmth and light are so alien they seem intrusive... you write it so well I feel the chill... Excellent work!!

Love this dialogue with the sun ... it's as if I heard also the sun's answer, it says "I am your ally, even if you don't collaborate".

Intense write.

There are those days when the sunshine is glorious and then, there ARE those days, you'd just like it to tone down those deafening rays!  Could really relate to this!  Yes, I remember days I wanted to shrink down small enough to hide under a leaf.  No one would see me, and there I could hide from the sun.  Outstanding poetry, Ed.

Now on the brighter side... sending you a smile!

The day is very dark and dreary here....where is that sun??  Understanding this poem even more today, so I'm sending you a hug.
