Delicate violet hidden
in peaceful wooded vale
sister of the daffodil
and teller of this tale

Bouquets of love unclaimed
lay moldering in the hedge
sister flowers breathing soft
and browning on the edge

Tossed from a fleeing bride
whose groom had been untrue
carelessly thrown from a car
tied to a billet-doux

Goodbye words dotted with a tear
spoke of pain and lovers lost
honesty was the method
dying flowers now the cost

Who knows the terrible price
of the rapture of the rose
who pays when a lover lies
and when a lover knows

The life of a rose, it is bitter/sweet.  Your poem is lovely in its sadness.  Happy New Year, Poet deVine!   ....jo
