Recurring Dreams

She came along the brand new highway
paved in the morning after she left
she opened the night with a flurry of notes
she dashed off for my benefit
informing me of her recurring dreams of me
yes, she came along the new highway
just to invest in a recurring dream of me

And oh, I'm so moved
I can't ever think of letting go
with nothing left to prove
I make my way to the show
way up on that silver screen
flickers the light of her recurring dreams
of me

I came along the Cannery Row coastline
with a heart full of sorrrow and regret
for the way our love crumbled to the ground
never know who's guilty or innocent
but tonight her name is up in marquee lights
I've come so far from the coastline
just to interpret her recurring dreams tonight

And oh, I'm so moved
I can't believe I ever let her go
with my soul so soothed
I make my way to the show
where nothing is what it seems
she's uncovered the light of her recurring dreams
of me

And yeah, she's got something to prove
with her life split at the seams
with the only repair being her recurring dreams
that she dreams for me
and they scream for me
and she bleeds

We came along together, to the borderlands
with heavy hearts and open minds
ready for a way for our love to fill our hands
empty but for when they're entwined
tonight we'll find the time to share these dreams
'cause we're here at the border
trying to set the night right for our recurring dreams

Yes, I'm so moved
I won't ever again let her go
with my colorful mood
I take her out the show
shining way up on that screen
richly hued, her recurring dreams
recurring dreams of me
