Little Boy Lost
~ Linda L. Dowd ~

Lost, forlorn and crying,
His sobs brought on my own.
Fire had razed his family's house,
And the boy had not a home.

He was eight and I was nine,
When we met that day of fate.
My smile drew him to me,
As I stood by garden gate.

His eyes were red and puffy,
Tears flowed like mountain stream.
I asked what was the matter,
He said, “Wake me from this dream!”

Everything that he had owned,
Had been burned in the fire.
He lost his toys, bed, and clothes,
Now his life hung by a wire.

He was staying with his grandma,
But missed his friends and home.
Each night his folks would call him,
On the telephone.

“Wait there!” I said ~ and ran upstairs,
To fetch my jar of money.
It was filled with my birthday cash,
And some coins in a gunny.

I emptied out the contents,
And put them in a sack.
I said that he could buy himself,
Some things that he now lacked.

He put his arms around me,
And kissed me on my cheek.
Hope shone in his teary eyes,
For the future looked less bleak.

I never saw that boy again,
But I think of him some times.
Wondering what became of him,
And how he spent those dimes.

Lost, forlorn and crying,
His sobs brought on my own.
Fire had razed his family's house,
And the boy had not a home.

Linda, you've always been an Earth Angel, even when you were nine!  What a sweet story, and my goodness, your voice!  That was a wonderful idea to add it.  You're so creative.  And...I got to thinking about how vision prevents many from reading poetry, and this is a sweet thing to do for the vision impaired.   & Love & Holy Light, dear friend.  lily jo

Beautiful story Earth Angel, I bet that little boy thinks of you sometimes too. I think you must have been born with a heart of gold. :-) Merry Christmas!

A very touching story, Linda, told as only you can being the angel that you are.  My reception of your voice was rather stop and start but I managed to hear enough - enough to know who I'd like to read my poetry!
Merry Christmas!

majnu ~

That is sooo true! However, when I was 9, I had accumulated what to me at that time, was a lot of money. My savings were from what I had earned doing household chores and Christmas and birthday gifts of cash.

I remember how wonderful it felt to give to someone in need. It was a valuable lesson to learn at such a tender age. I knew that the money was being put to a far greater use than if I were to use it to buy the Victorian Doll House that I had been saving for.

I posted this true story at this time because Christmas is all about love and sharing and caring ~ and it truly does feel better to give than to receive.

Love & Light,

My goodness! You are so intuitive! My Dad is legally blind and can no longer read books ~ he listens to them! ~ from tapes that he gets from the CNIB (Canadian Institute for the Blind). I had been thinking of doing exactly as you have suggested!

Thank you for your warm and loving response to my post!

May your Christmas be Merry and the New Year be Joyous!

Steven ~

I never thought of the possibility that he could have ever thought of me at times over the years. But now that you have mentioned it, perhaps he has! ~ and what a warm and pleasant feeling that gives me! Thank you, Steven for this gift to me!

Love & blessings of joy,
Linda

Enchanting One ~

When I listened to my recording, I could hear the catch in my voice at times. I still get emotional when I think of that Little Boy Lost.

May Christmas blessings be rained upon you and your family forever more!
