Night Sound
14 September 1986

Out there
in the tranquillity of my night forest
there is a squeak
of a small animal
or bird
or frog.

I hear it above the intermittent swish
of tyres on the distant highway
and the gentle zing
of crickets below my window
and the deep contented breathing
of the dogs at my feet.

And I need to share the squeak
of the small animal
or bird
or frog
with you.

Hoo-Hoo!

Nice write.  I could almost hear the wind whispering through the trees too.

This is what I like to call a spoken poem, and I like it very much, it's vivid too.

Oh, this poem really takes me back. It makes me miss my old house in the country. Thanks for that Owl, I needed it. Amazing Poem  -  Ed Grim

Owl - I envy you your "night forest" - here we just have the hum of the motorway but I suppose thankfully because frogs are such noisy little creatures.

Thank you JL.  Glad you nearly heard the wind too.

Thank you Broken.  Glad you enjoyed it all the way from Norway.

Thank you Ed.  I am glad that I could make such a beautiful memory quiver with life.

Thank you Midnite Sun.  Glad you enjoyed it.

Thank you Honeybunch.  My night forest is my favourite, although I love my dawn and daytime forest very much too.  Yes, just as well, I you don’t live here.  Now and then we have a froggy chorus – and I love it!

Not only do you describe the setting so well we're THERE... you remind me of all those times I talk to someone in my head... sharing every experience, major or minor. *S* Excellent!

The sounds of night...

*sigh*  I need to start paying more attention to the sounds of night.

Thank you Suthern and Susan.  Yes, Susan, sometimes you need to listen through the silence, and sometimes you need to listen through noise to the little sounds.
