Unaware
you were crossing my chest
in photographs

stealing my heartbeat

tasting blood
and bone
like a memory

I notice now
in matte finishes
how you shine there
a wave
without limbs

greeting me
in hallways
and doorways.

And I fear you dead

unlike I do
death

in a silent way
after
lights - out

a faster tremble
down the steps
to my room.

I whisper of imagination
and scepticism
like a mantra

and still
I know

If I knew your name

I would say it aloud

     (no whispers
         of doubt in my tones)

in the hallway

where you see me.

Damn, Gem, your writing is so tight.

And I saw a hallway of pictures and even some held close to your chest.

Kinda like you are looking at someone who you know and they dont know what you see
but in some way they are looking right back at you.

I loved this part:

how you shine there
a wave
without limbs

and again, the photos . . .

Just utterly blowing me away.

Thanks for reading sue. for always reading.

I enjoy reading other peoples interpretations, so many ways something can be seen.

This is about my house, quite an old house, Victorian, i think. and something I saw after a friend pointed it out in a photograph of me, standing coincidentally in a place very close to where i saw and felt 'someone' or something.

maybe i'm mental...but

ahhh far from mental, quite insightful actually.

I got that feeling though - hope I wasnt that far off . . . and how can one not read you?

Gosh, an old Victorian, it has got to be beautiful and probably full of spookies, eh?

No, your writing is beyond me.   You reside on another plane Gemma Jo.

your writing always amazes me Gemma.
I could see this grand hallway with pictures hanging....and yes I can see how it seems they could be staring at you.  Wonderful writing.

Thankyou sue and donna, you're so kind with your replies.

Unfortunately, the house is not as it should be. When we moved in the people before us had mistreated it to say the least. And the landlord is useless, and i mean useless. It could be so beautiful. It still is, to me. But its run down and badly decorated. I just love the old features of the kitchen, where the old kitchen range would have been. and the origional tall cupboard/dresser. Fireplaces in every room. the cellar. I just loved it from the first moment of being in it, unlike everyone else. ha. They can't wait to move out.

Yeah, it must have history, no doubt about that.

Thanks again for your words,

This reminded me so much of something I experienced as a kid.

(It felt like I was visited by a "something"...)

I'm not sure if I understand this totally, so forgive me if I'm way off base with that.

Easton Lodge? perhaps you could help me out there?

But I am certainly intrigued, as the style of it down the page reminded me very much of "footsteps"...

Karen, Easton Lodge is the name of my house.
Yes, i have had a few weird incidences in this house, let alone other houses.

Not too scary in this house, terrifying in other places!

Hope thats expalined it.

As with every poem of yours that I have had the airtime to find and read, I love every word of this - full of magical meanderings, melancholic mysteries, quiet excitement, intellectual art and artistic intellect.  Your poetry reminds me of Chopin and Flemish painters - deep and more exquisite with every exposure to it.  It is the sort of poetry that I like to wrap around me and exhilerate in its texture, the sort of poetry into which I like to gaze and watch changing reflections, the sort of poetry that I listen to with my finger tips and touch with my sense of hearing.

I too love old houses full of character, and ones that whisper tales of forgotten lives.  I would love to meet your ghost/s - or at least read lots more poems about him/her.

Thank you for the exquisite pleasure of living your poetry, especially this one.

Amazing writing here, Gemma.. I know you've always been amazing, but how many words are there for it? I need a thesaurus. =)

Oh how I enjoyed this Gemma.
Mostly because I have had so much happen to me in our old home.
Thank you for reminding me.

this one reminded me of when i lived at my parents house and when they just moved in ,and the old story's it came with. And something about an old bootleg house where drinks and Lady's were found in the prohibition era when it was banned ,the gambling and all that stuff ..further into the story it was said it had a hidden passage to the basement , which it did through the downstairs bathroom , there was a trap door that went to the celler under the house and a tunnel from there  to the edge of a steep cliff type hill past our backyard ., and from there the leggers could escape into the night and to the lake not to far from there ...i was always telling my friends about that in school lol anyhow those old houses have many wandering spirits in them this poem took me back thanks
nice writing gem
