Please Say It Isn't True
1 July 2005

the terror
the desperation
the helplessness
face to face with your would-be murderer.
I know how it feels
but I escaped
several times.

If only you had too
yesterday
or the night before.

Oh--

If this is half true, a tenth true.....and knowing where you live, I fear it's too very true....

This poem goes so far beyond its words, that the words don't even matter.

Thank you RatLeader, Serenity Blaze and Enchantress.  I'm very sad to say it is 100% true.  Thank you all for your kind replies.

I got to know Belinda (a lovely person with a very aggressive, dominating, widely-disliked, common-law husband) as I am an estate agent and she was selling her house.  Her common-law husband murdered her by hitting her with a baseball bat and then putting a plastic bag over her head and suffocating her.

I was gagged and bound in my own house in October 2000 with knives flashing at my throat and then twice this year I was attacked on my driveway (once after opening my garage door and the second time before doing so) and had my handbag (purse to Americans) stolen, though I hung on to it (in both cases) as long as I could - the first time with knives flashing in my face, but the second time, my attacker dropped his knife in the struggle before he could take it out of the plastic packet.  None of the times was I hurt except for a few bruises.  However, I did get 3 poems out of the time that I was tied up in my house, the first one being anecdotal - my son said his mother is the only person who could ever have put humour into such a poem.  I now have a palisade fence around my property and an automatic gate and garage door and security lights.  It isn't this bad all over.  It is just the exact position of my house, amongst a few other circumstances.  Things are a lot safer now.  The fence gave birth to a poem as well.

However, I digress for moments from the tragedy that befell Belinda.  As you will see from the date it was quite a few months ago, but I still agonise over how her last moments must have been.

How...gut wrenching horrifying.

But I do say, with more than a little admiration, I love your spirit, your willingness to share, as well as your talent.

and how serendipitous too, I was just telling a friend how I, too, refuse to let one moment define me, but you, m'friend? Well?

This hits particularly close to home for me... for it's been just a year since a dear friend was murdered... AFTER he gave the thieving scum all the money in the store.

Very touching write!!

Thank you Serenity Blaze, you honour me and I hope that I am worthy of your words.  I try, but I don't always succeed.

Thanks Kristabell for your kindness.

I am sorry to hear of your friend, Suthern.  Thanks for reading.

Thanks, Aenimal, I wish we could all aspire to the civilisation of the animal world.  They only kill for survival, self-defence, protection of their young or their territory and for food.

Owl....All I can think to do is to give you a hug.  I wish it could be a real one...poetically speaking, it is!

I told you you shine . . .

and it is the truth in you that is so admiring, Diana.

Martie a virtual hug from somebody who means it, is far more real, than a "real" one that isn't meant.  It is the thought that counts.  Yours is very real to me.  Thank you.

Thank you littlewing.  I don't know that I live up to your opinion of me, but I try and will keep doing so.  Yes, I certainly love the truth, and hope that what I believe is the truth, always is (or perhaps what I mean is that I hope I believe the truth that is).
