He sat alone in the mist
blinking away his tears,
his thoughts turning evermore
to those wasted, wasted years.
Pain stabbing at
a body so thin
causing a cry
to escape fom him
he hunched lonely
against the cold,
at just nineteen years
he felt so old.
If only he'd listened,
taken the advice,
heeded the people
that were being nice.
He reached out a hand
as if to touch
the people he needed
now so much.
Ghost's in the mist
are all he will find,
figments of a drug
fuelled mind.
" I love you Dad,
I love you Mum. "
He weakly cried,
and then the drugs took over,
and alone,
he died.

A real heart-breaker of a poem.

Drugs destroy the mind, the spirit, and the body. Drugs kill.

silverwind,
This is one of the most touching poems I've read for a long, long time.  Why one can be lonely with so much love around, I'll never know, but I know it is so.  Nineteen was a very difficult age for me,too.

I'm hoping this is fictional, but I realize that it could be quite real.

(big angel hugs) Oh Randall, this is soooooooo heartbreaking and indeed a central problem that so many youth are enduring today, dearest friend! (sad sigh) I applaud you for speaking out on this issue and encouraging loved ones to guide our children with care and encourage them to say "NO!" God Bless You, we all love you so much! You have such a beautiful heart, sweet Randall, thank you for sharing!

May love and light always shine upon you!

Love,
Noah Eaton

Drug addiction is an illness of our times!
Drugs destroy and drugs do and can kill!
What a very sad read!

A big warm thankyou to everyone that took the time to read my work and also for taking the time to reply. Yes, it is a very sad subject but one that should not be brushed under the carpet or regarded as an embarrassment by the ' powers that be '
