The winds they said were coming,
It's a category five,
Everyone started running.
We wondered if we'd make it out alive.

Then the winds started blowin'
The streets were full,
the rafters started howling.
With the tearing winds taking their toll.

Everythings in the water,
Now that the wind is dying down,
The drapes are all a tatter.I wonder if we'll be found.

I realize its really quiet,
Then I start to look around,
I call for someone,
And see the trees are all downed,
The house its all but gone.
There's mo one here I'm all alone.

I call again and all I hear,
Is the water rushing through,
Where is everyone,
how can this be true?
Then I see there is a helicopter here
I'm saved, they're here to save me.

But wait where's everyone,
There is an officer, maybe she will find them
She asks me my name,
All I can say is where are they?
"Who?" she said, and how old are you?
I'm twelve with no mom or dad.

Danie

If this is a true to life poem...how frightening it must have been to find yourself alone in the aftermath of Katrina.  You have written well of how it feels and it frightened me, so I'm sure that it would a 12 year old.  Welcome to Passions...I look forward to reading more of your poetry.

Hello Danie and welcome to Passions.
Anyone caught in Katrina's path must have been terrified.
And even moreso for a young person like yourself.
You caught the fear very well in your first post.
Please enjoy your time here with us.

Welcome to Passions.
Your first post is a real heartfelt write, and while I am happy it isn't your own personal experience, I am very sad for the young man who lost his parents, and for all the others who lost so much in Katrina's devastation.
I look forward to more from your obviously sensitive heartbeat pen.
